He found his first interest in music when he heard some records his brother brought home from overseas. When he was young he studied classical violin, saxophone, and composition at Sibelius Academy. He later studied jazz at Berklee College of Music in Boston. His first line-up featured drummer Edward Vesala and bassist Pekka Sarmanto. His first album
Blues Section was released is 1967. It is self-titled.
